Wizkid’s “Essence” Wins Best Collaboration At The 2022 BET Awards



Legendary Nigerian singer, Wizkid has bagged another award. The singer made history at the 2022 BET Awards which was held on Sunday 26th July 2022 at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles when ‘Essence’ featuring Tems and Justin Bieber was announced as the Best Collaboration of the year.

Wizkid’s Essence knocked off DJ Khaled, Baby Keem, Kendrick Lamar, Doja Cat, Drake, and Bia hit songs which were nominated for the same category. With this win, ‘Essence’ becomes the first African song to win a BET award and Wizkid becomes the first Nigerian and African to win an Award outside the Best International Acts category.

Wizkid had previously won the BET HER Award as a featured artist on Beyonce’s ‘Black Skin Girl.’ However, with ‘Essence,’ he becomes the first African lead artist to win a category other than the International category.
